Nathalie & Bastian
Wedding Photographer Villa Arvedi Verona
May the flowers remind us why the rain was necessary.
Rumbling thunder resounded throughout the small church in the middle of the old town of Verona, when Nathalie and Bastian realized that their antique Porsche cabriolet stood outside in the pouring rain. As a matter of course, Bastian’s father ran out to close the roof and came back soaked through right before the exchange of the vows. A few moments later I drove together with the newly weds through the thunderstorm to the Villa Averdi, one of the best wedding venues around Verona. Everything was planned out perfectly; Congratulations accompanied by champagne in the impressive garden in front of the villa, followed by the cocktail hour in the beautiful backyard, rounded off by an open air dinner dancing under the starlight.
Once arrived at the villa, it became very clear that none of these plans will happen and the whole wedding day will look completely different than imagined. Moved to tears, I tried to comfort Nathalie and told her: “You won’t believe me, but in the end everything will turn out great and tomorrow, in a month or maybe a year, you will laugh about this day and remember it as one of the best days of your life.” A few hours, bear hugs, drinks, talks and laughter later, all of a sudden the sky cleared up and we were finally able to go outside enjoying some sun. Simultaneously, the dining room in the second floor was quickly prepared (we all agreed that it was one of the best plan b locations ever) and at the end of the day we could even party outside.
When I left the wedding way past midnight, Nathalie gave me great big hug while smiling head over ears and told me: “Thank you so much for everything Yannick. You were absolutely right!”. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier at that moment. The moral of the story: Unless you’re Ted Mosby who actually can perform a rain dance (however, he actually wanted to let it rain), you’re probably not going to affect the weather in any case. So be prepared, not with a plan b but with two plan a's and embrace the weather not matter how it turns out. Because in the end, it’s not about where you celebrate together, but how.
